Dear Caring Members of the Community:


               The Sebastian River High School Rowing Club needs you!

As fundraising chairman of the Executive Board of the SRHS Rowing Club; I'm pleased to inform you of the opportunities available, to support the dedicated student athletes striving for excellence in the sport of rowing. Despite currently using antiquated equipment in this 3-year-old program, these students have proven to be very capable of aggressively competing and winning in high school regattas across the state. Unfortunately, this equipment can no longer be sustained and must be replaced. Because rowing is a club and not a state-sanctioned sport at the high school level, no state funds are available.
 
      Even though the student's parents all generously contribute to the team's financial support, and the students conduct a multitude of fundraising endeavors, the team's needs are just too great to be met by these traditional methods. We need to raise an additional $90,00.00 to replace the two 8-person boats, manufactured in the 1970s; which no longer have parts available because of their age. A 39' long haul trailer is needed and a few sets of 8 oars. Also needed are two 4-person boats and an ERG rowing exercise machine for training purposes. Further information about these items may be obtained at the web sites listed at the end of this letter. Of course, the option of purchasing any of these items in gently used condition is also being explored.

Any and all contributions would be so deeply and greatly appreciated! All board and booster members are unpaid volunteers, so a full 100% of all contributions go directly to purchase this equipment! If you would like to fully sponsor the purchase of any item, the team would like to show their gratitude by displaying your family or business name on that piece of equipment.

      There are also many advertising opportunities available for you or your business. The team's program/ad book has spaces available from $35.00 - $300.00, and is handed out at regattas (races), scrimmages, and fundraising events. Advertising spaces of 18�x 36� are available for $400.00 annually on the team's hauling trailer. 8'x8' ad space is available for $1000.00 annually, at the boathouse on the C-54 Canal off of Babcock Street, where regattas and scrimmages are held. You supply the signage.

    We are parents and members of the Executive Board of the Sebastian River High School Crew Team. The team consists of rowers that attend SRHS and are in the 9-12 grades. We are currently in our third year of existence. As the interest of rowing grows, so does our sport club. We currently have 60 members actively involved in this sport making it the largest single sport on campus. These students are highly motivated athletes and also achieve high grade point averages.

    We have a strong coaching staff and they have worked hard to develop strong athletes. These athletes could potentially go onto college crew teams with full scholarships. This sport is considered a club sport for high school as it is not sanctioned or recognized as a sport by the state of Florida. Therefore, the team does not receive any funding from the state or from the school to compete, travel or for equipment. It is up to the team members and parents to raise the funds needed for these students to perform.

    The one thing that is hindering our athletes to move forward is the lack of updated equipment. The boats they are currently using are dated back to the 1970s. The team has made several fundraising attempts that have gone to constant repairs of the 3 used boats they are presently using. The price of one new boat is approximately $30,000.

    As prominent community members and business owners in our area, we want to educate you to this sport and to the needs our students have. Please take a look through this folder to gain an understanding of our needs. You are also welcome to contact our coaches to gain more information.

    Our goal has been set to raise $90,000 this year, we are seeking individuals and businesses to help sponsor our athletes in any denomination from $50- $25,000+. All donations are accepted, greatly appreciated and tax deductible. We can also provide business advertising opportunities in return for your contribution.
